Simulated daylight

About two weeks ago I spent a whole bunch of money on buying a daylight lamp. Well I ended up with not only one but two ones. One for me, and one for my son (who obviously also suffer more than usual from the lack of daylight). The darkness has been driving me crazy. Usually I’m up half the night, more recently I’ve been up – all night. The weightiness in my demands has become zero in the mornings when trying to get the kids up to school. And the morning meetings…  I try to avoid them as far as possible.

Ordinary incandescent bulbs feature a yellow light. A dayligth lamp give a much bluer/whiter light at the same colour temperature of natural daylight, around 6000 to 6500° K (Kelvin). There are numerous daylight lamps types to choose from. The lamp I bought has a full-spectrum light 10,000 Lux. I belive that’s the highest Lux you can get on a lamp like this.

The lamp I got for Otto is a so called Wake-up Light which you control via an iPhone-app (high tec yes). The gadget, which includes an iPhone/iPod dock, promises “a gradual wake-up routine by increasing the light gradually in your bedroom”. A sunrise (or sunset in the evening). You can also replace the alarm with sounds (like birds in the forest etc.) or tunes supplied by your iPod or iPhone. This lamp has an effect of 300 Lux.

So, does it work, has it made us more alert? Yes I belive so! As for Otto I don’t know yet, but my waking hours at night has become much less. And I believe I have more energy. My lamp works fairly as a photo lamp as well. Sounds like I’m sponsored doesn’t it. I wish.

i got a similar one as otto (ok, without that mobile high tec gadget) from my sister months ago. it worked for some weeks to wake me up, but then … perhaps i should try to add another alarm sound. who wants to go to work if you could stay in bed listenig to the sound of the sea?

    good morning(s)!

jag har också en…den står på matbordet och är ful till frukost och lunch och snart sitter jag där hela dagen…tror att det hjälper och det är ju mycket vunnet bara så.Jag blir hopplös av mörkret.

you have such a good humor!! love it!

  7. Oh dear. We’ll just have to tough it out together, we northern hemisphere folk. Here in Canada, we depend on frequent get togethers featuring fine roasts and strong whiskey. Just saying…it’s an idea!

the wake-up lamp sounds intriguing. i have never heard of this before, i guess we have a lot of daylight hours here in comparison. it would be a different light routine to get used to for sure living in europe.

thanks for the info… I’ve always wondered if they work. Our cameraman friend said they’re GREAT for taking photos with :)

    Money well spent!
I bought myself a shoddy second-hand one and put it on a timer switch to wake me up. It makes a click and is suddenly bright – like a nuclear bomb rather than a sunrise!
I do appreciate the effects though – makes everything a bit more manageable.

Friday, December 21 is the winter solstice. I can’t wait! I need the
light. I can appreciate the beauty of winter, but I’m a lot happier in the spring/summer. I find the dark of the winter slightly claustrophobic, and this is coming from someone who lives in California!

The lamp sounds like something I need! I never can drag myself out of bed. Waking up to the sound of birds sounds wonderful.

I’ve also heard of Vitamin D lamps/bulbs that you can turn on while you work. I’ve been dreaming of a holiday somewhere hot with all the dark days we’ve been having.

I think I could use that as well!

    Hi,

    Couple of questions!
Is this the 25 or 30 cm lamp? Did you order it online from that site? I’m a bit picky when it comes to online shopping and I didn’t get the best impression of that particular site, but I do love the lamp. Finally a day light lamp that looks good!

    Thank you! :)

Bra med morgonljuslampan. Det bästa är att slippa vakna av ett hårt ringande till nattsvart morgon. Vi vaknar lite segt till fågelkvitter och morgonsol varje dag :)
