The cat has a thing for cables

Yesterday she bit of my headset – completely off. The cute one is a wild one indeed. I guess we have to hide or lubricate the wires with lemon or something. Any tips?

The kitten RUT + how to introduce a new cat

You who follow at Instagram has already seen her, Rut. Our newest fluffy, soft, Brittish shorthair family member. Adorable in every way. This will be the fourth day we have her. And things has gone smooth, so far.

The introduction to our first cat, Hiro has been carefully planned, as most cats do not always willingly accept a new member of the family (they need time to get used to it). The first two days the cats was only able to smell and hear each other. As this guide suggest we rubbed the cats with the same towel to intermix their scents, let them play paws under the door and also switched the cats’ locations a couple of times before the introduction.

The introduction (yesterday) went better than expected. Rut was placed safe in her cat carrier at a table (no eye contact at first). When we opened the cat carrier door Hiro was served his favorite meal and Rut got catnip. Both of the cats acted curiously and sniffed each other. Then there was some chasing and fighting but no bigger fuss. She seems like a though one, and even if he might be a careful cat he still he seems eager to mark his territory, just as he should. So I belive things are going well.

Wonder

We do not necessarily worry, but we are thinking a lot. About how things will be when the little one comes. As I understand it Brittish Shorthair is a tolerant and “easygoing breed of cat”. And the Devon Rex prefers company. The prospects are good, she is a she + she is a kitten. We will phase them together, step by step. That’s how you suppose to do it, right?

I’m also wondering if the Monstera leaf will survive. It’s been a week now.

Your best tips wanted

I know that I’m not the only cat lover who feel guilty about depriving the indoor cat of natural instincts, sunshine and fresh air. Even if there are statistics that indicate that indoor cats have a longer life and better health, the lack of (?) physical and mental stimulation is a concern. Our cat (Devon Rex) is a curious one, move a vase and he will be busy for half an hour. But the truth is he is not the easiest one to play with. Any tips on cat games are welcome.

Morning snapshots

He celebrated 11 years yesterday, our son. It was a good and happy day. I gave him these. To his father’s consternation. Maybe not so wise. But fun!

Our cat is about 27 years old. Accordning to this calucalutor anyway. He was a little little one here. But the ears was big.

Weekend and cats

Did a job with a good friend of mine this weekend. She, like me works as a prop designer. I’ll tell you, me and her together at a fleas regulary is not a good idea. We’ll would have to move to a mansion before.

And just like me, my friend has a cat. Her cat’s name is Smirre. It’s a “normal” cat. He’s a chubby, cute and hairy one. Our cat the other hand (who kind of stirred up a little debate this weekend at Apartment Therapy, ha ha) has less hair. I love all kind of cats but the weird thing when you have a Devon Rex and meet other more fury cats, the reaction when I pat them is often – oh I got a hand full of hair suddenly. Like a shock really that it can be so much fur on one cat. The fur on a Devon Rex (if they have any) is short, curly and soft as the feathers of a chicken. It’s a cool an intelligent breed. Some times described as a cross between cat, dog and a monkey. Or, as “a monkey in a cat suit”. That’s a good description, I like that.

“Indeed, what is wrong with the cat?”

When our decorated Malm dresser finally make it to Apartment Therapy, the cat got all the attention. Ha.

Hiro him self is rather indifferent though.

I see you

-

Is it not strange. I’m not the one who is cuddling most with him. I’m not the one who plays with him. And I’m not the one who feeds him (anymore). I’m the one who cuts his claws, and I’m the one who shut him out (from my room when he is totally annoying). But anyway! Poor cute, faithful constant companion.

He’s a sweet guy our Hiro

Follows me around where ever I go. “The typical Devon is active, mischievous, playful, and very people-oriented”. Him indeed. But maybe he’s a bit more Elisabeth-oriented, than people-oriented. Yes I think so, indeed.
